Show your reading skills

educ1Reading is one of the most significant ways to improve one’s knowledge about the world around them. Those living in poverty have limited resources and access to reading materials. Because of this, they are not given the chance to escape their lives of poverty and find success.

By increasing children’s passion for reading and learning, we can help them better their lives. GAFI works to promote reading to everyone, and provides materials to those who do not have them. Our goal is to teach people of all ages and social standings the fruits of reading. GAFi’s reading education project works by first engaging the children in our local communities in an exercise that shows their reading in a positive fun light “Show your reading skills”.

educGAFI volunteers read to the children short passages and then guide them to read a passage then after answer questions about what they read. This shows the children how by reading, they increase in knowledge. GAFI also provides various reading materials to children at different literacy levels so as to help them get access to reading materials. Volunteers will communicate the need and importance of reading to both the teachers and students and possibly workshop be organized for the if necessary. We stand as ambassador for reading to the community we work with

Public Health Education

This program focuses on malaria, diarrhea/cholera and reproductive health. These diseases kills over millions of people every year especially children in Africa and have been and continue to be extremely prevalent in the African region, and more specifically in Ghana.

Our goal is that through educating the public we can raise awareness of treatment and prevention to eradicate these diseases. In addition to volunteering their time, volunteers can also collect the material needed to perform screening on malaria, diarrhea/cholera and also go to the community with the project manager with some questionnaires to assess the knowledge of people in that community on these diseases and collaborate with other volunteers in order to communicate their ways to teach this information at workshops.
